Abstract The Operations workstream is an integral part of the growth and development of healthy systems for reliably producing and maintaining the ShapeShift product suite and its uptime, responsiveness and feature functionality. This workstream will provide a number or resources to the DAO including: Prod Issue, and Triage escalation management, regression and deployment testing, and a resource for cross workstream organization and alignment. Check out more about each specific responsibility outlined in the ideation post. This is a proposal to officially establish the Operations Workstream, fund the workstream’s anticipated budget through January 2022, and appoint @Tyler | ShapeShift as the workstream’s leader.
Motivation The Operations workstream works side by side with all the other workstreams to increase efficiency and help progress deployment and testing processes while still verifying reliability, health, and full functionality of all of our services. This allows the Engineering workstream to spend more time building, and deploying, the Product workstream to spend more time scoping, designing, and implementing, and can provide updates, resources, communication, coordination and any other need that may arise from other workstreams. The Operations workstream is the only workstream focused on the wider picture of the product suite’s uptime, functionality, and overall health. This workstream accomplishes that by also being a workstream that synergizes and coordinates cross stream collaboration further strengthening the DAO.
Specification Mission: The Operations workstream is an integral part of the growth and development of healthy systems for reliably producing and maintaining the ShapeShift product suite and its uptime, responsiveness and feature functionality. Goals Minimize downtime of the entire product suite. Catch production environment bugs, triage and prioritize them accordingly. Identify Production Issue level bugs in regression tests. Monitor and measure down time, length of bugs and solutions, and maintenance ticket progress. Organize cross stream communication
Ensure the delivery of prioritized features on time, under budget, and according to the acceptance criteria defined in each feature spec Assist with one-off community projects as needed, and make sure all projects executed by the workstream and outside the workstream are on brand and pass usability Optimize efficiency wherever possible. Success Metrics We will develop a strong set of KPIs after the first quarter of the workstream’s existence. Metrics we will be focusing on are: Site uptime, number of triage tickets made/solved, number of production issue escalations, length of time spent fighting production bugs, release timelines, feature functionality, time spent testing as well as more DAO focused and centered KPIs relating to organization for the community, meeting attendance, and governance processes,
Budget Total Funds Requested $136,400 detailed budget outlined in Operations workstream forum post. If this proposal passes, the equivalent amount of FOX will be transferred from the DAO’s treasury to the Operations Workstream on Colony. Because the budget is denominated in $USD and FOX is a volatile asset, any decreases in FOX price will warrant additional transfers of FOX from the DAO to the Operation Workstream on Colony to ensure the workstream has enough FOX to cover its budget. Benefits If this proposal passes, the DAO will receive the following specific deliverables and services which are integral to its success:. Coverage for Prod Issue escalations Triage Management Regularly scheduled regression and deployment testing Cross workstream alignment and stakeholder resources Drawbacks The main potential risk is whether cost/benefit of a Operations workstream will be worth it to the DAO’s bottom-line in the long term. To mitigate this risk, only 3-4 months of funding are being requested, the funds will be managed on Colony and can be revoked by the DAO in any worst-case-scenario. Vote Yes: You support establishing the Operations Workstream, appointing @Tyler | ShapeShift as workstream leader, and funding the workstream’s anticipated budget through January 2022 of $136,400. If this proposal passes, the equivalent amount of FOX will be transferred from the DAO’s treasury to the Operations Workstream on Colony. No: You do not support establishing or funding the Operations workstream.
